Horse Racing odds Australia

On the Horse Racing prices we sampled, Unibet and Ladbrokes are the two operators that most often post the top available return. Unibet held the best price on 56.0% of sampled markets (243 markets), and Ladbrokes on 54.7% (258 markets) — the deepest two samples in our dataset, so those figures carry the most weight. Both also run the tightest average margins on racing at roughly 5.8%. If you shop for the top of the market on Australian gallops, harness and greyhound-adjacent thoroughbred cards, those are the two books to check first.

Below we break down best-price share, average bookmaker margin and market coverage for every licensed operator we track, then explain why the numbers rank them the way they do.

Where the best Horse Racing prices sit

Best-price share measures how often an operator posts the highest available odds across the markets we sampled. On racing markets:

Two things stand out. First, Unibet and Ladbrokes are clearly ahead on frequency of topping the market. Second, Sportsbet records the lowest average margin in the sample at 4.91%, yet the smallest best-price share (15.9%) — a sign its overall book is tight but rarely the single best line on any one runner. bet365's 30-market sample is the smallest here, so its 23.3% figure is less reliable than the deeper samples.

How margin affects your racing returns

Average margin is the bookmaker's built-in overround across a market. Lower margin means the priced field returns closer to true value. Across the racing sample, margins cluster between about 4.9% and 6.2%, with bet365 the outlier at 7.44% on a thin 30-market sample.

Margin and best-price share answer different questions. Margin tells you how competitive an operator's whole card is on average. Best-price share tells you how often that operator wins the specific runner you want to back. For multi-runner racing markets, both matter: a book with a low average margin (Sportsbet, PointsBet) can still lose the top line on your particular selection to Unibet or Ladbrokes.

Practical takeaway: hold accounts across at least the two highest best-price operators, then check a tight-margin book like Sportsbet or PointsBet as a third quote before you commit.

Market coverage and depth on Australian racing

Coverage ratings (out of 10) reflect the breadth of racing and sports markets each operator lists:

bet365 leads on breadth, which is useful when you want deep exotics and international meetings alongside domestic cards. But breadth is not the same as price: on the racing markets we sampled, the top best-price share still belongs to Unibet and Ladbrokes. Choose the coverage leader when you want the widest market list; choose the best-price leaders when you're optimising return on a specific runner.

Live betting, cash out and app support

Every operator we track for Australian racing offers live in-play betting and runs both iOS and Android apps — with one exception: TopSport lists an Android app but no iOS app, and we hold no odds sample for TopSport on racing.

Cash Out is available at bet365, Ladbrokes, Unibet, PointsBet, Sportsbet, TAB and Neds. Live streaming is listed for bet365, Ladbrokes and Unibet. Fast Payout is a listed feature at PointsBet, Sportsbet, Neds, betr, PlayUp and TopSport.

On app rating, bet365 (9.3) and Sportsbet (9.0) score highest, with Neds (8.5), Ladbrokes, Unibet and TAB (8.4) close behind. All withdrawal windows in our data sit in the 0–24h range, and every operator lists a $10 minimum deposit.

Payments for Australian racing accounts

PayID is the most widely supported method, listed by every operator in our set except bet365, which supports Visa, Mastercard, PayID and Apple Pay. Apple Pay is listed only at bet365 and Sportsbet.

If near-instant deposit via PayID is your priority, all major books cover it. Apple Pay users have a narrower choice.

Licensing and legality

Australian online wagering is regulated by state and territory racing and wagering authorities. The minimum betting age is 18. In our dataset, Ladbrokes, Unibet, PointsBet, Sportsbet, Neds, betr, PlayUp and TopSport are recorded under the NTRC (Northern Territory), TAB under state authorities, and bet365 is listed as licensed.

Licence-safety ratings are highest for bet365 and Ladbrokes (9.5 and 9.2), followed by TAB (9.1), Unibet and Sportsbet (9.0). All operators here carry a rating of 8.5 or above, so licensing is not the differentiator on this list — price and coverage are.
