Betting Odds in the United States
Across a sampled set of shared markets, DraftKings posts the best available price 54.0% of the time — the highest best-price share of any US sportsbook we track. Average bookmaker margin (the hold baked into a market's prices) ranges from 4.25% at DraftKings to 6.35% at BetRivers. That spread is the whole reason to shop lines: on a two-way NFL spread, the difference between a 4.2% and a 6.3% margin is real return over a season. This hub ranks where the sharpest US prices concentrate and explains what the numbers mean.

See all odds →Best-price share: who wins the line most often
Best-price share measures how often an operator offers the top available price on a market versus its rivals in the same sample. Higher is better for bettors.
- DraftKings — 54.0% best price, 4.25% avg margin (1,068 markets sampled)
- Fanatics Sportsbook — 41.8% best price, 4.25% avg margin (466 sampled)
- Caesars Sportsbook — 36.2% best price, 5.27% avg margin (906 sampled)
- FanDuel — 36.1% best price, 4.46% avg margin (596 sampled)
- BetRivers — 28.3% best price, 6.35% avg margin (480 sampled)
- BetMGM — 19.9% best price, 5.21% avg margin (438 sampled)
DraftKings and Fanatics carry near-identical margins (~4.25%), but DraftKings tops the line more often, which is why it leads the price rankings. Fanatics punches above its overall market coverage on pure price. bet365, ESPN BET and Hard Rock Bet are not in the odds-metrics sample, so their best-price share is not quantified here — their odds ratings (bet365 8.8) reflect our editorial scoring, not the sampled price data.
What margin actually costs you
Margin is the sportsbook's built-in edge: the amount by which the implied probabilities of a market exceed 100%. A 4.25% margin means the book prices a market at roughly 104.25% — the 4.25% overround is the house cut.
The practical range in the US sample runs from 4.25% (DraftKings, Fanatics) to 6.35% (BetRivers). On repeated wagers, a 2-point margin difference compounds. If you bet a market where one book holds 4.2% and another holds 6.3%, you are systematically getting worse implied odds at the higher-margin book even when the headline price looks similar.
Margin also varies by market. Main lines (NFL spreads, NBA moneylines, MLB run lines) are tighter than derivative markets like player props or Same Game Parlay legs, where holds run considerably higher across every operator. Price-shopping matters most on mainline markets where the sampled margins above apply most directly.

Where the sharpest US prices concentrate
The data points to a clear tier. DraftKings, Fanatics and FanDuel sit in the sub-4.5% margin band, meaning their core markets are priced tighter than the field. Caesars and BetMGM sit near 5.2%, and BetRivers is the widest at 6.35% in our sample.
Market coverage and depth tell a different story from price. bet365 leads our coverage rating (9.6) and sports depth (9.5), and DraftKings follows at 9.0 coverage. A book can be broad without being cheap: BetMGM rates 8.7 on coverage but only 19.9% best-price share. If your priority is finding a market at all — niche competitions, deep prop trees — coverage leaders matter. If your priority is the return on standard markets, best-price share and margin decide it.
Practical takeaway: holding accounts at two or three books with high best-price share (DraftKings, Fanatics, FanDuel) captures the top line far more often than sticking to one. The best-price share numbers only pay off if you can actually shop between them.
Odds by sport and competition
Line quality shifts by sport. US operators price NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL mainlines tightest because volume is highest and books compete hardest. Derivative and lower-volume markets carry wider holds.
- American Football — NFL, NCAAF: deepest US markets, tightest mainline margins
- Basketball — NBA, NCAAB, EuroLeague: heavy live and Same Game Parlay volume
- Baseball — MLB: run lines and totals with active in-play pricing
- Ice Hockey — NHL: puck lines and totals
- MMA / UFC: two-way moneylines, method and round props
- Football (soccer) — MLS, Serie A, Ligue 1, Champions League, Europa League, Copa Libertadores, World Cup
- Golf and Tennis — ATP, WTA: outright and matchup markets, typically higher hold

Licensing: US betting is state by state
US sports betting is regulated state by state — there is no federal sportsbook licence. An operator licensed by the New Jersey DGE is not automatically legal in another state; availability, minimum age and rules depend on your state regulator (NYSGC, PGCB, MGCB and others). The minimum betting age is 21.
All nine operators tracked here hold state licences where they operate and rate 8.9–9.5 on our licence-safety scale, led by bet365 and DraftKings at 9.5. Which of them you can actually use depends on your location: legal markets include New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Colorado, Ohio, Illinois, Arizona, Virginia and Massachusetts, among others. Confirm your state before comparing lines — the best-price share numbers are only useful for books live where you are.
Payments and payout speed
All tracked operators list a $10 minimum deposit and a 0–24h withdrawal window. Payment support is uniform on the fast rails: PayPal and Online Banking appear across the field, with Venmo, Visa and Play+ varying by book.
- PayPal — supported by all nine tracked operators
- Venmo — bet365, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, ESPN BET, Fanatics, Hard Rock Bet
- Visa — bet365, FanDuel
- Play+ — DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, BetRivers
- Online Banking — all tracked operators
BetRivers, FanDuel, Fanatics and Hard Rock Bet carry Fast Payout in their feature sets. Payment method does not change the odds — but if withdrawal speed matters to you, filter by PayPal betting sites, Venmo betting sites or Fast Payout books.
FAQ
Which US sportsbook has the best odds?
On our sampled markets, DraftKings offers the best available price 54.0% of the time — the highest best-price share tracked — at a 4.25% average margin. Fanatics (41.8%) and Caesars (36.2%) follow. bet365, ESPN BET and Hard Rock Bet are not in the price sample, so their best-price share is not quantified.
What is bookmaker margin and why does it matter?
Margin is the overround built into a market — the amount implied probabilities exceed 100%. It is the house edge. US margins in our sample run from 4.25% (DraftKings, Fanatics) to 6.35% (BetRivers). Lower margin means better prices, and the gap compounds over repeated bets.
Should I use more than one sportsbook?
Yes, if you want the top line consistently. No single book posts the best price on every market — DraftKings leads at 54.0%, meaning it is beaten 46% of the time. Holding accounts at two or three high best-price-share books lets you capture the sharpest odds far more often.
Is online betting legal across the United States?
It is regulated state by state, not federally. A licence in one state does not carry to another. Legal markets include New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Colorado, Ohio, Illinois, Arizona, Virginia and Massachusetts. The minimum age is 21. Check your state regulator before betting.
How fast are US sportsbook withdrawals?
All nine tracked operators list a 0–24h withdrawal window with a $10 minimum deposit. PayPal and Online Banking are supported across the field; BetRivers, FanDuel, Fanatics and Hard Rock Bet list Fast Payout among their features.
